Former Kansas University baseball standout Travis Metcalf has been unconditionally released by the Kansas City Royals organization.
Metcalf, 27, was batting .219 with nine home runs and 47 RBIs in 110 games with the Royals’ Triple-A farm team in Omaha. A third baseman, Metcalf had been acquired from the Texas Rangers in early April.
Metcalf, a native of Wamego, held KU’s single-season home run record until it was broken by Tony Thompson last spring.
